Meat free meals

So the organic blog is a write off... who knew buying organic for a week could be so tough. France dont sell organic food as widespread as the UK do and without the time to visit an organic supermarket, I parked the idea and moved on with the priority of reducing our meat intake to help save the planet from global warming.

Two good friends shared the importance of reducing meat intake and they minimise their family consumption to twice a week. It's amazing the impact that this can have on the environment, protecting the earth for future generations with such a small lifestyle change. I too tried the approach to limit meat menus to twice a week. This is quite a task when living in a country where meat consumption is so significant. The french eat a lot of meat, easily twice a day most days. A light meal normally consists of ham and cheese. Vegetarians have a hard time finding a good choice of food in france and this challenge has certainly been reflected in my mission. Lunchtime we eat at the canteen where there are two options: either meat or fish. So yes fish is a great alternative for the environment but if you want a vegetarian meal it boils down to salad or pasta with no sauce as normally it's a meat based accompaniment.

Clearly avoiding meat in the canteen is challenge number one, and challenge number two consisted of providing an appetising dinner for my husband that has a mainly meat based diet. I have used lots of website inspiration to get creative... with Deliciously Ella, Helmsley and Helmsley and Naturally Sassy all providing a great repertoire of veggies dishes. And who knew that with a little bit of creativity you could convince a french man to eat and more importantly enjoy vegetarian food. Check out some of our recent recipes here on my blog. Lentils and courgetti, chickpeas, cauliflower mash, sweet potatoes and veggie pizzas all made for great vegetarian meal options. However I'm still working on the tofu, we aren't ready to run just yet.
