Spending a weekend in London to catch up with my friends was a much needed break from the stresses of reality. What better way to take a break from the routine of daily life than by experiencing a snippet of the life of others. Particularly when my two good friends have very small children.

From the test of feeding to sleep deprivation not to mention teaching the difference between right and wrong, I was struck by the incredible resilience, patience, passion and above all love from these incredible women.

However during this same weekend I was struck by the numerous conversations with women surrounding the challenges of working mothers. From having difficulty to get back into the job market, the lack of unpaid leave, flexibility surrounding pregnancy as well as the conundrum of childcare options and costs, it reiterated how 50% of our population can still feel so threatened to have the family that they want as well as the expected career progression any ambitious individual would hope to enjoy.

Not only is the role of women such an important contributor to the economy today it is also essential to creating the economy of the future through successful development of the new generations.

Jen Blythin and her fantastic blog on child weaning, link here Jens blog has inspired me with her approach to home cooked food. Ensuring a balanced, healthy and creative diet when caring for a one year old can be a challenge.  Mixing that with informed environmental choices to make the world a better place for these new generations is even more difficult. She reduced their meat consumption to better manage the planet as well as switching to organic. Neither of these were simple choices for her household but she was sold through  the clear benefits of ensuring the use of healthy fed animals in her home cooking and the importance of clean food for her family. I will be taking inspiration from this super mummy to see how easy it will be to switch to organic in France in the next week.

Look out for my next blog: a week of organic living in France
